Tanzania is located on the mid-section of the eastern coastal region of Africa in what is called The Great Lakes Region.
The countries that border Tanzania are: Kenya and Uganda to the north; Burundi, Rwanda, and The Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west; Zambia, Malawi, and Mozambique to the south.
Tanzania also hosts the largest mountian in the world, Mount Kilimanjaro whose
elevation is 5,895 metres (19,340 feet). Within Tanzania's bountries is Lake Victoria,
(also known as Ukerewe and Nalubaale). It is the largest tropical lake in the world and the second largest fresh wtaer lake.
The capital is Dodoma and there are about 126 ethnicities. Religious factions are: 37% Muslim, 34%
Christian, and the rest are indigenious to their tribes. The first language spoken by Tanzanians is tribal. Upon entering primary school they are taught the national language of Swahili, (Kiswahili). It is a requirement of secondary students to learn English.
The Tanzanian shilling is approximately 10,000 tnz shillings to each $8.00USD. The main exports are spices from Zanzabar. There is one main railroad running from north/south and goes through Dodoma.
The country is beautiful but has a very poor ecenomy. The average income is approxminately $600 per year. The government is a republic. |
